Shortfilm in India
India is dominated by the mono culture of the commercial hindi cinema (Bollywood). There is almost no space for independent low- and no-budget productions. Only recently the increasing influence of Hollywood, the omission of trade restrictions and the distribution of cable-TV networks have now led to a slowly opening to the west.
In this climate of westernization there's a lot of enthusiasm amongst Indian filmmakers and audiences about an ever-increasing variety of cinematic expressions alternating the Bollywood mainstream. More and more opportunities for screening short films have arisen and have gained a small amount in public recognition.
