Joko Anwar,
(1976), formerly a film critic for The Jakarta Post daily, wrote and directed his first feature in 2005, Joni’s Promise, which went to be the #1 box office hit.
His second feature film Kala is Indonesia's first tribute to film noir.

A cop named Eros is investigating the case of five men who were burnt to death by a mob after somebody screamed "thief" at them. A journalist named Janus is also covering the story. The two are quickly drawn into a labyrinth of mysteries and murders. Janus accidentally discovers a secret. But everyone he tells the secret to soon finds a terrible death.
Kala is Indonesia's first tribute to film noir which is also wildly praised by critics who called it a breakthrough in Indonesian cinema. (Cineasia)
